ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Union College men's outdoor track & field team finished in sixth place out of eight teams at the Liberty League Outdoor Championships, held on Friday and Saturday at the RIT Track & Field Complex.
Union finished the two days with 33 points, earning points in eight different events. The men also finished the second day with four season-bests and two career-bests.
Junior
Jason Bois led the way for Union by taking third in the final of the 110-meter hurdles, earning All-Conference honorable mention with a time of 15.41 seconds.
Union started the day with an All-Liberty League honorable mention finish in the 4x100-meter relay, as the team of senior
Sam Ahern, sophomores
Nate Okwaning and
Aaron Binion, and first-year
Aidan Bradley traversed the track in 42.74 seconds to place third.
Ahern and Okwaning combined for seven points in the 100-meter dash, with the two Union runners separated by five-thousandths of a second in the final. Okwaning finished fifth in 11.013 seconds, followed ever-so-slightly by Ahern in 11.018 seconds. Ahern also earned two points in the 200-meter dash, crossing the line in 23.00 seconds to place seventh.
Senior
Ben Neff added four points to the Union ledger in the 1,500 meters, crossing the line in 3:56.39 to place fifth out of 23 runners. He was joined in the event by junior
Will Plante and senior
Ryan Russell, both of whom ran career-best races with times of 4:01.57 and 4:05.42, respectively.
Two more points came Union's way in the 4x400-meter relay thanks to a 3:28.17 finish from Bradley, juniors
Drew Hill and
Aidan Savitt, and sophomore
Jackson Klehr.
Junior
Mason Lang earned the team's only points in the field events with a seventh-place finish in the shot put, posting a top mark of 13.16 meters. Classmate
Tony Cocchiaro finished 21st in the same event with a top distance of 11.70 meters.
Senior
Thomas Breimer and sophomore
Ben Pistiner both recorded season-best times in the 5,000 meters for Union, with Breimer finishing in 16:14.10 and Pistiner completing the race in 17:24.82.
In the discus throw, Binion placed 18th with a top distance of 32.78 meters and first-year
Dylan Boyle took 20th thanks to a throw of 32.41 meters.
Qualified student-athletes will continue their outdoor season on May 14-15 at the All-Atlantic Region Track & Field Conference Championships at Williams College.
