TROY, N.Y. - The Union College men's track and field program took down a pair of program records at the RPI Capital District Classic Friday as the Garnet Chargers finished fourth in their final regular season meet of 2024.
Sophomore
Jason Bois set the first record, in the 110-meter hurdles. After posting a 15.23-second time to finish first in the preliminary, the sophomore crossed the line in 15.09 seconds in the final to break the 45-year-old 15.10 record set by Matt Blum '80 in 1979. Bois easily finished in first, tallying 10 points for Union.

Sam Ahern was next to etch their name into the Union record books, as the team's time of 42.01 seconds broke the 10-year-old record of 42.11 to finish second and bring in eight points.
The success in the 110-meter hurdles continued for Union. Junior
Liam Beck also qualified for the final with a personal best 16.84 second time in the prelim and put up an identical time in the final to score four points and finish fifth.

Jackson Klehr was not to be outdone in the 4x400, setting a season-best in 3:31.89 and picking up the win and 10 points for Union.
The record-breaking 4x100 squad rolled their success over into individual events. With Ahern and Okwaning qualifying for the 100-meter final after finishing in the top eight in the prelims, the duo finished third and fourth in the final to combine for 11 points. Ahern picked up the bronze with his 10.98-second time, while Okwaning set a personal best with his 11.08-second posting. Binion also timed a personal best 11.44 seconds in the prelim to set a new benchmark.
Hilliard came just shy of his own record in the 400 with his eighth-place finish in 51.74 to tally another point, while first-year
Syed Muhammed Ali continued to work down his time in the event to set a new personal best of 54.75 seconds.
Junior
Thomas Breimer began the day for Union by cutting almost 20 seconds off his 3000-meter steeplechase time he posted at RPI two weeks ago, crossing the line in 10:35.60 to finish sixth and score three points for the Garnet Chargers.
Classmate
Chris Brandreth set a personal best for the second straight meet in the 400-meter hurdles, finishing in 1:02.50 to finish fifth and register four more points.
Senior
Ben Trantanella posted a personal best in the unseeded 1500, finishing in fourth with his 4:03.80 time breaking his previous 4:04.24 best set at the RPI Under the Lights Invitational just over a year ago. The senior's top three times in the event have all come at RPI, with his 4:05.16 time at the 2024 edition of the Under the Lights Invite two weeks ago coming just shy of setting his best. Junior
Ryan Russell also broke his personal record with his 4:07.20 time.

Mark D'Alessandro picked up a top-10 finish in the 5000 with his 15:50.61 time, while first-year
Ben Pistiner and junior
Connor Cavanaugh timed personal bests in 16:31.18 and 17:02.07, respectively.
On the field side, Union scored three top-10 finishes in the javelin throw with their top three throws of the season. Sophomore
Nick Entner smashed his previous personal best by nearly four meters to lead the way with his 47.82-meter throw to finish second and score eight points before classmate
Mason Lang rounded out the top three with a 47.69-meter toss, coming with a foot of his personal best and good for six points. Fellow sophomore
James Toleos also came just shy of his best toss with a 38.63-meter throw, finishing in eighth and scoring one point.
Lang rounded out the top 10 in the shot put with his 12.85-meter throw, gaining another point, while Entner set a personal outdoor best with his 11.96-meter toss in the event and first-year
Aramis Suarez set a new personal benchmark with an 11.21-meter throw.
Senior
Eli Coleman picked up a top-five finish of his own in the long jump, leaping a season-best 6.54 meters to finish fourth and score five points. Coleman's top three outdoor jumps have now all come at RPI.
Hilliard and Binion continued their success in the triple jump. Hilliard's 12.38-meter jump was good for eighth and one point for Union, while Binion's 12.14-meter leap finished out the top-10.
Union will now prepare for the postseason, as the 2024 Liberty League Outdoor Track & Field Championships are set to take place next Friday and Saturday, back on the campus of RPI.
