The 1999 Union College Women's Soccer team is fittingly the first women's athletics team to be inducted into the Team of Distinction wing of the hall of fame. The Dutchwomen finished 16-3-1 and was the first team other than swimming & diving to win the New York State Women's Collegiate Athletic Association Championship. It recorded Union's first ever female team victory in an NCAA Championship Tournament with a remarkable 4-3 triple overtime win over Ithaca after trailing, 3-0 at halftime. Union won the NYSWCAA championship with a 4-3 overtime triumph over St. Lawrence. The squad capped a two year run that produced an overall record of 29-4-2. Stars on this squad include players who were named to the all-tourney team after the NYSWCAA title, tourney MVP Lauren Byrne, and Abby Harris, Abbie West, Katie Smith and Melissa Matusewicz (who was inducted individually to the Union College Athletics Hall of Fame in 2011).
