Joe Clinton made an immediate impact for the Union men's basketball program as soon as he suited up in Garnet and White. He set the all-time assists record as a junior and finished his career with 556. Clinton owns the single season and game records for most assists with 182 and 15. He graduated as the third highest scorer all-time with 1,270 points, a mark that now ranks 11th. A two-year team captain, Clinton helped the Dutchmen to an overall record of 20-4 and a NCAA tournament berth during his senior year, earning NABC East Region Second Team, ECAC Upstate First Team and New York State Division III Coaches All-Star accolades. He was awarded the William B. Jaffe Award as a junior and was named to the All-Rookie squads for ECAC and NYS. Clinton was also a standout on the baseball diamond, playing for the Dutchmen in 1982 and 1983.
