Megan McCarthy Gouveia had one of the most stunning careers of any swimmer at any NCAA institution. She was a 10-time NCAA All-American and was one of just two individuals to place 10th in the overall TEAM standings at the 1997 NCAA Division III Championships. At the time of her induction, Megan still holds the Dutchwomen record for the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:08.45 and also the 200 breaststroke with a clocking of 2:20.50, both set in 1997. Her mark of 1:05.60 in the 100 breaststroke set in 1997 ranks second at Union 16 years later. Then known as Megan McCarthy, her individual performances, particularly at the NCAA Championships, provided Union College with national exposure, not only in the sport of swimming & diving.
